It was given to a soldier of the Lincolnshire Regiment, a citizen of Austria-Hungary, Czech Josef Zikmund.Born on May 21, 1895 in the village of Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou (Bohemia), in 1914 Josef Zikmund was in Great Britain as a waiter.Josef Zikmund was accused by the local police court of being a foreigner living in a reserved area and did not register and received a three-month prison sentence.With the outbreak of the Great War, Czechs and Slovaks received the right to volunteer for the British Army. Josef Zikmund signed up as a volunteer on May 23, 1917. In January 1918 he was demobilized due to serious wounds.
